Earlier this February, media outlet The Guardian featured a music essay written by Caroline Sullivan about how globalized music created a new kind of star. The essay discusses how music is no more limited to language and the singer's nationality. They also said that alpha stars of World's Pop including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga are now "an endangered species." On top of that, New Yorker critic Amanda Petrusich's review of a Taylor Swift concert film, "The massive pop stars of yesteryear – Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake – are fading from the public consciousness."

Looking back on BTS and MONSTA X's concert in London, the writer said, "The venues heaved with excited young Londoners, who sang along, lofted flags and generally did their nut over being in the same room as their heroes – all of which is par for the course at pop shows.
